President's Message - February

Written by William B. Seccurro

I’m not sure how many Chamber members are aware of this little fact but it has snowed on the 5th of December six times out of the last nine years. It did it again this year and snowed but only accumulated on the grass areas. This brings me to the topic of the Chamber’s Annual Prayer and Fellowship Breakfast which is held on the first Friday in December each year. This year’s event was held on December 4th at the Richlin Ballroom and the 110 members and their guests were treated to a motivating and inspiring talk from Dr. Bob Henderson, Chair, NutraMax. His talk was one of the best ever and truly demonstrated what it means to preserve in difficult times. We thank Bob for sharing his story with the membership.
Now back to the weather, that brings me to the Chamber’s Inclement Weather Policy which readers will find printed elsewhere in this publication and on the Chamber’s Web Site at www.hafordchamber.org. When in doubt, check the web site for early morning messages. February is a busy month at the Chamber. Many of the major annual events occur during this month including the Annual Dinner which is featured in another article elsewhere in these pages. Many times the weather is questionable but events that are scheduled will go on unless there is a state of emergency declared by the Governor. By the time you read this, the Maryland General Assembly will have been in session for about twenty-five days. Not quite a third of the way to completing the annual ninety day session. The Chamber’s Legislative Committee will be working with the Harford County Delegation to make sure proposed legislation which may impact business will get a close look and recommendations for and against as appropriate. Members of the Legislative Committee spend two Monday mornings each month working on legislative issues and additional time as necessary. Advocating for business is a primary charge of the Legislative Committee.
The Chamber’s Annual Dinner will be held on February 18th at the Maryland Golf and Country Club. This has become one of my favorite events and it comes at just the right time of the year. Harford County Executive, David Craig will once again serve as the guest speaker and everyone enjoys the atmosphere of MGCC. So make your plans to bring a business associate, colleagues, and of course, spouses or significant others are always welcome.
